Lucy's First Bath

Lucy's umbilical cord stump fell off 4 days ago - exactly when she turned 2 weeks old.  We have been talking about giving her a bath since then but we didn't get to it until tonight.  She's been getting regular sponge bobs (for some reason Momma kept calling it sponge bobs instead of sponge baths), but she was definitely ready for a real bath tonight.

Every baby book warned us that there will be a lot of screaming/crying and it could be a very stressful time but Lucy was so chill through the whole thing.  She absolutely LOVED it!  Her eyes were wide open the entire time.

The only time she cried was when we took her out of the tub!

Out and About

Jared had the day off today so we were able run some errands (ie: Lucy had her own book stamp made, grocery, etc.).  We also swung by The Community Tap to get our friend Robert a birthday gift; then we stopped by their house to drop it off and to hang out for a bit.

First Sunset

We watched the beautiful sunset from the deck in our backyard this evening.  It was Lucy's first sunset and she was very observant and looked really cute in the natural glow.

Even Darwin and Tucker joined us.

Meeting Nana

Nana Dori came for a visit to meet her first ever granddaughter.  We had a lot of fun hanging out - she even helped us set up Lucy's bassinet!

Meeting Nana for the first time

Nana brought a beautiful handmade blanket for Lucy.  It matched her cradle perfectly!
Thanks, Nana!

Grandma's Girl

We went to Mary Beth's for brunch on her last day in SC.  Lucy was wearing a blue outfit - Nana warned us that people will think she's a boy.  Indeed, a lot of folks thought she was a boy!  :o)

Nana's visit was too short!  She had to go back to Indy already by Sunday :(

We miss you already and can't wait for your visit over Thanksgiving!

P.S.  Daddy Jared insisted that we post these photos of Nana and Lucy making funny faces together:

Big Busy Day

It was a big day for us today.  It's the first time Lucy and I ventured out on our own.  But first, mommy had to get ready and this is one way for her to get those showers in these days:
Lucy in her rock n' play sleeper - in the bathroom

After her late morning nursing session, we met up with mommy's coworkers for lunch and then stopped by her workplace to meet the ladies.

Mommy's cube, all packed up for the move

Then we headed over to Amy's (midwife) for Lucy's 2-week weigh in.  She weighed 7lbs 9.5oz prior to feeding.  After nursing and a huge poopie diaper, she weighed 7lbs 12.5oz, which means she is taking in a bit over 3oz.  That's great news!

More great news - her umbilical cord stump fell off today!  YAY!

After a quick stop at Sunrift to say "hi!" to daddy, we headed home for a nap, followed by a visit from some good friends - Brad, Katy, and their little girl Lily.

And the day is not yet over... Nana is coming tonight for a weekend-long visit!  YAY!

Climb On!

We stopped by the gym again today so that Lucy can meet Wanda, the gym's owner.  Little girl chilled in her own crash pad and had a little vertical action.

Daddy named two routes after her - "Little Lucy" and "Gaia Girl"

Getting psyched to climb!

Everyone knows you have to stretch before climbing

Go BIG, Lucy!  Momma's got your spot!

First trip to the climbing gym

Since cabin fever is starting to set in, Lucy and I decided to hang out while Jared set some routes at the climbing gym today.  We really weren't much of a help with anything since we just ended up napping most of the time.  But it was still a very special day since it is the first of many trips to the climbing gym for little Lucy.

This is what crash pads are made for!

Sinok (Hiccups)

Lucy has the hiccups after every feeding.  I'm starting to be concerned and this is one of those times when you should not Google.  Either that or be extremely selective with what to read and believe.  There are websites that say it is because of the mommy's diet, other's say it's because her diaphragm is still immature, while others say it just happens for no reason.

In tagalog, hiccups are known as sinok.  The elders say that putting a wet piece of cotton on the baby's forehead will get rid of it.  Of course, Ninang Kimi had to test this old wives' tale - I don't think it worked.  Could be because she used a piece of paper towel or maybe, just maybe, it's a little too hokey.  :o)

Lucy looking a bit silly

Jared may have actually found the cure for the hiccups.  The last time Lucy had them, he launched into this explanation, "Lucy, did you know hiccups are an involuntary muscular contraction of the diaphragm?  It was left over from our amphibious ancestors and.... HEY!"

He wasn't able to finish.  Lucy was already fast asleep and the hiccups were cured.  LOL!

A Little Parenting Advice

My parents keep telling me how I should not always carry or hold Lucy or she'll become spoiled and would always want to be held.  They said to put her in her napper especially when she's asleep.  Now, if only they would practice what they preach... hehehe...

Photo Session with Aunt Kristine - Part 2

Aunt Kristine came over again today to hang out:

She also took more photos of little Lucy!  Thanks, Aunt Kristine!

Meeting Marin (and Aunt Emma!)

Lucy officially met her friend Marin today.  She came to visit with her Mom Emma.  Lucy made the cutoff for the school year in Greenville County, so hopefully, she'll be attending school with Marin!

BFF's already :o)

Congestion Question!

Poor Lucy seems to be congested today.  We ran the vaporizer all night but Momma neglected to add some salt to the water so it really was not working well.  Lucy was making this snorting noise that we now refer to as "Maggie Noise" (my sister's chihuahua, Maggie, always made a snorting noise).  I'm really at a loss as to what to do.  I read that newborn babies don't really know how to breathe through their mouth, so my worry that she's been breathing through her mouth seems baseless...

Here's Lucy - Momma thought she was trying to breathe through her mouth...

Ninang Kimi spent the day with us and she even helped give Lucy a sponge bath, although she chickened out when it came to changing her diaper.  It didn't stink but I guess it looked pretty gross... she was gagging!  :o)
